Understand the value of voting!!! There once was a time when African American voters faced barriers like poll taxes and ridiculous literacy tests. There once was a time when African American voters – and women of all races – were explicitly barred by law. There once was a time when just trying to vote might mean the loss of your job, your home, or even your life.
This is why voting should not be taken for granted and, this is why everyone, especially African Americans, should vote in the upcoming presidential election and all other elections.
It is a privilege to be able to go to the polls and voice your opinion about ballot issues and elected officials through voting. It is our responsibility as citizens of this country to express our support or discontent for policies through the process of voting. It is also our responsibility to elect officials who value what we value: work-family flexibility, equal opportunity family-supporting jobs and economic security for all families.
